MARTIN EDEN - wiki project.
He influenced me, because of his vision of life. At first, he has nothing, at last, he has everything. But this is not enough for him. Nothing is enough for him. Because, he does not need, anything.
Martin Eden is a 21-year-old sailor, as a result of an accidental opportunity, he meets Ruth, falls in love with her, and with her family, her life. In order to match Ruth he works hard. He reads a plethora of books. Ruth helps him to study writing. Martin writes 40 drafts circling unceasingly throughout in various magazine company. He doesn't understand why his own works aren't accepted, but these have a liking for the spiritless thing always. He looks for Ruth, reads his work to her, asks her to judge. Ruth does not appreciate his work either. After is repeatedly defeated but he still persists to write. Gradually Ruth is losing the confidence to him, but Martin still attacks her and the people of the upper level of society. Martin sees Ruth and her family clearly. Once, they participates in the time which the socialist party person assembles by a tabloid reporter confusedly is interpolated in the report, becomes the anarchism leader, encounters the isolation and besieges. Ruth leaves Martin then. The only real friend of Martin, Brissenden, is dead now. At this time, a huge change happens in his life that the publication magazine starts to use his work actually. The publishing house in order to his reputation has also accepted he all sorts of harsh requests, he became the famous writer. He can’t understand that these works all are already finish, they haven't been changed as well as Martin himself. Why does everybody flatter him today? Finally, Ruth comes back. But Martin is completely discouraged. He is so disappointed that he tells her he doesn't want to see her any more. He no longer writes a character. He leaves all his money to his sister and his laundry room partner Egypt. Then he goes on a ship and jumps into the sea.
He thinks there is no meaning in life. You can get everything you want, but some people has deeper blank in their souls.
- Do you have an aim in your life?
- Do you think life will become senseless if you achieve your purpose?
- Do you think you will realize your goal in life is not enough for you when you achieve your goal?
This is the book cover of Martin Eden. In the picture, we see Jack London. Martin Eden is a semiautobiographical book. Because of that Martin Eden is most vital and original character of Jack London.
THE WOMAN IN RED
Nowadays, all we talk
about is Gezi Parkı. In the beginning, a picture became symbol for Gezi Parkı
protests. Here is the picture:
Police officer seems
nervous, hateful and aggressive, but as you see, woman in red is really stable
and relax. Police officer wears a gas mask and holds tear gas. Woman in red
wears a red dress. It is obvious that she is here not to fight.
Actually, this picture summarizes the whole Gezi Parkı
protests. People in the street are nothing to do with violence. They have their
own ideas and they run short of patience. They dont approve what government
does, they want to say something after all of these things. It is not about
just a park, it is about interfering life styles and their bad managements. All
people are tired of governments decisions, most people are poor. In
televisions, they just say everything is okey and we will be the one in whole
world. This is a big lie and young people know that. They go out because they
are tired of it. They want to scream, they want to protest. They want to show
that reality is much more different than what televisions say.
In this country, protesting something is forbidden.
Police uses violence to the protesters. Many people died because of police
violence. They are not afraid, but their quick wid makes really elegant solutions.
We all know “Duran Adam”. He is just standing. Police even uses violance to
this protester and took him in charge.
We can say that, Gezi Parkı protesters dont want to bring
chaos to the country. They are standing there with their daily clothes, dresses,
shorts… They are standing with their purity. They are going to stand there,
till they change the world.
A SAD SONG
A SUICIDAL SONG : GLOOMY
SUNDAY
Gloomy Sunday is a sad song that written by Hungarian
composer Rezso Seress. He dedicated this song to his lover, but she committed
to suicide few days after publishing this song. So it turned out a legend and
song was banned from many radio programs. Most people believe that this song
has some black magic and make people kill theirselves. The more interesting, some researches and music
specialist made a research about this song and the lyrics. They found out that
melody has a special sctucture. Notes has spesific rises and falls. In some
parts song gives hope, shows a optimistic vision of life, after a while, notes
suddenly falls and song shows the reality of life. At first, it describes life,
hope and beautiful days but it finishes with death. This is what music
specialist says in technical terms. Here is the lyrics:
sunday is gloomy
my hours are slumberless
dearest the shadows
i live with are numberless
little white flowers
will never awaken you
not where the black coach
of sorrow has taken you
angels have no thoughts
of ever returning you
would they be angry
if i thought of joining you?
gloomy sunday
gloomy is sunday
with shadows i spend it all
my heart and i
have decided to end it all
soon there'll be candles
and prayers that are said i know
but let them not weep
let them know that i'm glad to go
death is no dream
for in death i'm caressing you
with the last breath of my soul
i'll be blessing you
gloomy sunday
dreaming, i was only dreaming
i wake and i find you asleep
in the deep of my heart here
darling i hope
that my dream never haunted you
my heart is telling you
how much i wanted you
gloomy Sunday
my hours are slumberless
dearest the shadows
i live with are numberless
little white flowers
will never awaken you
not where the black coach
of sorrow has taken you
angels have no thoughts
of ever returning you
would they be angry
if i thought of joining you?
gloomy sunday
gloomy is sunday
with shadows i spend it all
my heart and i
have decided to end it all
soon there'll be candles
and prayers that are said i know
but let them not weep
let them know that i'm glad to go
death is no dream
for in death i'm caressing you
with the last breath of my soul
i'll be blessing you
gloomy sunday
dreaming, i was only dreaming
i wake and i find you asleep
in the deep of my heart here
darling i hope
that my dream never haunted you
my heart is telling you
how much i wanted you
gloomy Sunday
When I listen the song, I became really sad but
I don’t even think about suicide. I guess this is just a fellow traveler for
suicidal people. To finish, we should accept that Gloomy Sunday is a perfect,
sad song.

HOW COLORS AFFECT MOOD
The woman has a
lot of experience working with colors. She discusses every color in the rainbow
and describes various moods that each color evokes.
Red
psychologically evokes or creates a mood of being excited, energized,
adventurous and ready to go. Physically it evokes a feeling of warmth. It is
the most intense color whether you are expressing hate or love. Red physically
increases blood pressure and heart rate.
The next color in
the rainbow is orange. Orange evokes mixed reactions. It is daring and
enthusiastic. It inspires ideas. Physically it warms and energizes the body. It
even stimulates appetite.
The next color is
yellow. It is been known for comforting. Yellow is uplifting and stimulating.
It has the same effect that sun has on us. Yellow creates a feeling of
happiness and joy. It stimulates one’s imagination and makes them wonder. It
even promotes learning. Physically yellow can be overwhelming if it is too
bright, but when a little white is added to lighten it up, it will simply
brighten up one’s day. Yellow inspires us to think of nature while green
reminds us of rebirth of spring.
Green seems a
neutral color since it surrounds us in nature. It is a fresh color, symbol of
life and new beginnings. Physiologically green creates an atmosphere of
unstressed mood that is definitely a great feeling. Good health is a physical
response to green. It makes one feel positive and relaxed. It even promotes a
desire to read. Cool fresh green room helps to speed up reading.
Next cool color is
blue. Mood of blue is emotionally charming, cool and makes you feel a little
more loveable. Like green it is a neutral color; it is seen almost daily in the
sky. Physically blue reduces our heart rate.
Purple is a royal
color that is at the bottom of the rainbow. In purple room one finds
him/herself in a little playful mood. Purple evokes mood of clarity and
sensuality. Physically purple is peaceful and smoothing. Purple reminds us of
royalty and nobility.
The last color is
white. Many people paint walls in white thinking that they are choosing the
color that is no color at all, when, in fact, they are doing just the opposite.
White is the presence of all colors together. It creates confusion, frustration
and boredom. Physically white color is unfriendly to the nervous system. People
are less productive and uncomfortable in white room.
RESISTANCE
Today, in our country, we are having some
experience about our lifes. Because of the “Gezi parkı” in Taksim, some people
just protest the government so that they can not build a shopping mall there.
The protest increased and spread all over the country. Millions of people were
on the streets and some people thought that this was just because of Gezi
Parkı. When we looked at the streets, we heard kitchenware sounds, people were
screaming, etc. It looks like a chaos. When you see it deeply, you understand
that this is not just because of Gezi Parkı. This is all about human life and
freedom of people. Every people in protests, has a reason for protest against
government. Some of them are here because of their sexual choice, some them are
here because of their low salary, some them are here because of limitation of
alcohol sale. Person who drinks alcohol is here, person who sells alcohol is
here. Whole society has a reason for being here. When we see this crowd, we
understand just one thing: freedom is our aorta. Maybe some can touch it, push
it, but when it comes at the end of some’s rope, whole people go out.
When we look at them, we can see
fellowship between people. There is no bad behaviors, there is no fights, there
is no anger. Every one of society knows why he is here. Because he does not
want to be limited. Only angry person in the country is on the television and
calls people “çapulcu”. It shows that this people are on the right way.
In this world, every people has his own
decision mechanism and every people should protect his freedom of thought. If
he doesnt resist any of the borders, one day he will realize that he cant move.
What are the major similarities and differences between FLA & SLA?
What are the major similarities
and differences between FLA & SLA?
First language acquisition (FLA )
focuses on the infants’ language learning process, while second language acquisition (SLA ) investigates
both infant (young) and adult learners’ language learning process. Mainly, when
comparing FLA and SLA ,
children’s first language acquisition processes are measured against the
adults’ second language acquisition processes.
According to Behaviorism, children learn language by
getting feedback. If they get positive feedback when they utter something, they
repeat this utterance. If there is a mistake in their utterance, mothers or
caregivers correct them; so they continue to produce utterances. By this way,
they learn L1. SLA has nearly the same
process, on the other hand. Learner produce utterances in L2, and if they are
right, teacher gives positive feedback; yet, if they are wrong, teacher
corrects the mistakes constantly.
Moreover, children learn language by using it in their
environment. They have to communicate with this language. Likewise, adult
learners also learn second language by communicating with this language. Even
in classroom environment, L2 learners have to interact with second language.
So, it improves the learning process. These are the major similarities of FLA and SLA .
As for differences between FLA
and SLA , first one is that while first
language is an obligation in a sense, second language is not. One has to
communicate with others via language –if there is no physical obstacle-, while
second language is just an alternative. On the other hand, children are exposed
to the L1 in every environment they exist. However, in most of the case, L2 learners
are exposed to the second language only in classroom. It certainly affects the
process of language learning. Another difference is that personal attitude to a
language affects learning process. This reason cannot be possible in FLA , because, as I said, L1 is kind of an obligation. So,
children do no develop an attitude towards their first language. In contrast,
adult learners can have an attitude towards their second language, and this
attitude affects their learning process inevitably.
There are, of course, many differences and similarities
between FLA and SLA .
I just tried to explain the major ones slightly. Language learning in both FLA and SLA has similar
processes, but some external and internal factors may create differences
between them.
ECSTASIC YOUTH
When you go out, walk down the street, you see people, some of them just hang around, some of them are really busy, some of them tired, some of them excited. You will see young people, they have an energy in their eyes, they have hope, its shining from their heart. But when you talk to them, not a daily talk, you will see a hopeless, tired, aimless person. They might have the lates cell-phones, they might be wearing high quality clothes, they might have the best lover, but deep inside, they are unhappy. They are looking for a purpose, but they dont know where to go, they dont even know what a purpose is. What makes them so gray, what makes them so hopeless, while even they are smiling?
World passed through many different eras and now we are
passing through a really hard one. Every character in television is smiling.
People are smiling in advertisements, in billboards. Some kind of ‘empty’
happiness is imposed to us. We get a very nice t-shirt and that makes us happy,
actually, we think we are happy. Here is the question, what is a real
happiness? Real happiness is not what we see in televisions, in billbords or in
the internet. It is not what we buy, it is not what we pay for. All this new
world system makes us lonely and this system wants us to be happy just for
ourselves. We are talking more, we are writing more, but we get lonely more. We
try to look like happy on facebook with photos, status… We actually look like
happy on facebook and so in real life. Unfortunately, there is some missing in
this puzzle. We dont have real friends, we dont have an aim, because we are
just trying to get what is new on the advertisements. We dont want to be happy,
we want to be rich. We want to be rockstar, we want to have a beautiful wife. A
beautiful wife but we dont care if she is a good person for us or not.
We can have nine bedroom in our house. That doesnt make
us rich. There is one question we should ask to ourselves: what can makes us
happy?
